This paper reports progress on gyrokinetic particle simulation of turbulence in fusion plasmas including: (1) Electron transport driven by short wavelength trapped electron mode turbulence; (2) Convergence studies and physics progress in long time simulation of electron temperature gradient turbulence; (3) Electromagnetic simulation of global magnetohydrodynamic modes and finite-β stabilization of the ion temperature gradient mode; and (4) compressible magnetic fluctuation in high-β plasmas driven by anisotropic temperature (mirror mode).

Turbulence and Transport Studies with Phase Contrast Imaging in the Alcator C-Mod Tokamak and Comparisons with Gyrokinetic Simulations
An upgraded phase contrast imaging (PCI) diagnostic is used to study turbulence and transport in Alcator C-Mod. The upgraded PCI system is capable of measuring density fluctuations with high temporal (2 kHz-5 MHz) and wavenumber (0.5-55 cm) resolution. An upgrade of the system has enabled PCI to localize the short wavelength turbulence in the electron temperature gradient (ETG) range and resolv...
متن کاملGyrokinetic Simulations of Tokamak Micro-Turbulence Including Kinetic Electron Effects
A gyrokinetic toroidal particle code for a 3-dimensional nonlinear turbulence simulation (GT3D) has been developed to study the ion temperature gradient driven – trapped electron mode (ITG-TEM) turbulence in tokamak plasmas. From linear zonal flow damping tests and nonlinear ITG simulations, it is shown that a new method based on a canonical Maxwellian distribution is essential to simulate corr...
متن کاملTH/P8-8 Influence of RF Fields on Anomalous Impurity Transport in Tokamaks
Trace impurity transport in tokamaks is studied using an electrostatic, collisionless fluid model for Ion-Temperature-Gradient (ITG) and Trapped-Electron (TE) mode driven turbulence in the presence of radio frequency (rf) fields in the ion cyclotron range of frequencies, and the results are compared with neoclassical predictions. Two separate effects of the rf field on ITG/TE-mode stability and...
متن کاملHigh frequency geodesic acoustic modes in electron scale turbulence
Experimental investigations has elucidated on the complex dynamics of the low to high (L-H) plasma confinement mode transition. Evidence of interactions between the the turbulence driven E⃗ × B⃗ zonal flow oscillation or Geodesic Acoustic Mode (GAM) [1], turbulence and the mean equilibrium flows during this transition was found. Furthermore, periodic modulation of flow and turbulence level with t...
متن کاملNonlinear inward particle flux component in trapped electron mode turbulence
Trapped electron turbulence is shown to have a significant inward particle flux component associated with nonlinear deviations of the density-potential cross correlation from the quasilinear value. The cross correlation is altered because the density advection nonlinearity mixes a linearly stable eigenmode with the eigenmode of the instability. The full nonlinear flux is evaluated by solving sp...
